AbstractUpper Tropospheric Cyclonic Vortices (UTCV) is a system defined as low pressure patterns in the synoptic scale, formed in the upper troposphere with average duration of few hours to several days. In this study, the UTCV systems were monitored at Southeast of Brazil through the S-band Doppler radar of IACIT, located in São José dos Campos/SP, which was also used to monitor the displacement of the event and the lightning associated with the system through of the BrasilDat network. Based on these data (available at the Lightning Monitoring and Prediction Center of ELAT / FUNCATE), it was possible to predict and monitor the displacement of UTCV in the Paraiba Valley, one region with high lightning incidence.
