For adequate determination of the forecast covariance matrices and of the observations, the horizontal and the vertical correlation of these entire variables and the knowledge of the standard deviation of these variables are taking in account. When an assimilation system goes to be implemented, the standard deviation are gotten considering the forecasts and analysis fields of the numerical model. When the assimilation system already is in place, it is necessity to update of these values. In this work, it is shown the standard deviation field used currently in the PSAS (Physical Statistical and Analysis System), implemented in the CPTEC for Global Model T126L28 and regional model ETA. The standard deviations of the PSAS are compared with standard deviations determined in this work: In a first case, without assimilation, the standard deviations were calculated considering the analysis and forecast fields for the global model as for the regional model, and in the another case, with assimilation, the standard deviations were calculated considering the differences between observations and first guess, which is called O-F. These results had been gotten for 10 levels of pressure, for the geopotencial, specific humidity, zonal wind and southern wind. These standard deviations had been used to get the PSAS analysis fields to evaluate the impact of these values in the covariance matrix of the assimilation system. Resumo A performance de um sistema de assimilao de dados depende tanto da quantidade e da qualidade das observaes disponveis, como tambm da correta especificao da estatstica das observaes e das previses do modelo utilizado (ou do first guess utilizado). Para determinao adequada das matrizes de covarincia da previso e da observao, consideram entre outros parmetros a correlao horizontal e a correlao vertical de todas as variveis geofsicas e o conhecimento do desvio padro destas variveis. Quando um sistema de assimilao vai ser implementado, os valores de desvio padro so obtidos considerando as previses e os campos de anlise dos modelos de previso numrica. Quando j se tem o sistema de assimilao, existe a necessidade de atualizao destes valores. Neste trabalho, so mostrados os desvios padro utilizados atualmente no PSAS (Physical Statistical and Analysis System), implementado no CPTEC para o Modelo Global T126L28 e para o modelo regional ETA. Os desvios padro do PSAS so comparados com os desvios padro determinados neste trabalho: Num primeiro caso, sem assimilao, os desvios padro foram obtidos considerando os campos de anlise e previso do modelo tanto para o modelo global como para o regional, e em um segundo caso, com assimilao, os desvios padro foram obtidos considerando as diferenas entre observaes e o first guess, a qual chamada de O-F. Estes resultados foram obtidos para 10 nveis de presso, para as variveis geopotencial, umidade especfica, vento zonal e vento meridional. Foram utilizados estes desvios padro para obter campos de anlise com o PSAS com o objetivo de estimar o impacto destes valores na matriz de covarincia no processo de assimilao. INTRODUO Os sistemas de Assimilao de Dados combinam dados convencionais e de satlite com o first guess de um modelo de previso numrica para produzir um campo de anlise, estimando da melhor maneira possvel o estado da atmosfera. Esta estimativa pode ser utilizada como uma condio inicial para um modelo de previso numrica ou uma seqncia de estas estimativas podem ser utilizadas para estudar fenmenos atmosfricos. Nos mtodos de assimilao os campos de anlise so avaliados em funo da previso do modelo e das observaes existentes. O peso e determinado pela especificao dos erros estatsticos da previso e da observao, desta forma donde o erro da previso e grande dado maior peso s observaes. Os erros estatsticos de previso tambm determinam os erros de previso corretos na vizinhana da observao. A determinao das matrizes de covarincia da previso de grande importncia no processo de assimilao de dados, porque depende delas para dar o peso respectivo s observaes utilizadas no processo, ao mesmo tempo a os erros de previso podem ser ocasionadas por duas fontes principais, as deficincias do modelo e um campo de anlise no muito representativo do estado real da atmosfera. Estes erros de previso podem ser resolvidas pela equao de Fokker-Planck ou na ausncia dele pela equao de Liouville (Ehrendorfer 1994). Contudo, esta aproximaes so difceis de serem resolvidas para modelos realsticos de previso do tempo com um numero alto de graus de liberdade, mas ao mesmo tempo uma adequada determinao destes erros nos leva a uma adequada determinao das matrizes de covarincia da previso de grande importncia no processo de assimilao, (Joiner, e da Silva, 1998). Parte-se de uma anlise estatstica com o objetivo de obter uma estimativa tima, ou obter a anlise do sistema pela combinao do sistema de observaes com a primeira estimativa do modelo de previso, sabendo-se que a matriz de ganho depende da matriz de covarincia do Erro da Previso, (Espinoza, 2000). As matrizes de covarincia corretamente especificadas ajudam na soluo das equaes de anlise. Neste trabalho, mostram-se os desvios padro obtidos para o modelo de previso regional e global considerando dois casos: o primeiro considerando a existncia de um sistema de assimilao, neste caso o PSAS, em conexo com o modelo de previso, tanto para o modelo global MGC-COLA/CPTEC T126L28, GPSAS, como para o modelo regional ETA com uma resoluo de 40 km, RPSAS. O segundo caso mostra os valores do desvio padro obtidos considerando que o modelo de previso no tem conexo com um sistema de assimilao, do mesmo modo tanto para o modelo global MGC-COLA/CPTEC T126L28, como para o modelo regional Eta de resoluo de 40 Km. Os valores de desvio padro obtidos so aplicados a uma equao simples de para obter a matriz de covarincia de previso de tal maneira de ser lido pelo PSAS para obter os campos de anlise. So mostrados tambm neste trabalho os campos de anlise de geopotencial e vento zonal obtidos com o PSAS, com a incluso dos novos valores de desvio padro calculados com assimilao e sem assimilao, verifica-se o impacto destes valores nos campos de anlise tanto de geopotencial como de vento zonal MATERIAL E MTODOS No CPTEC est implementado o PSAS, com isto temos dentro do sistema as matrizes de covarincia da previso e observao, determinados pela GMAO (Global Modelling Assimilation Office) da NASA. A partir destas matrizes obtivemos os valores de desvio padro, utilizados no PSAS, para os nveis de 1000, 850, 700, 500, 400, 300, 250, 200, 150 e 100, para as variveis de geopotencial e umidade como razo de mistura, sendo estes valores nossa referncia de comparao. Para a obteno dos desvios padro, considerando a no existncia de um sistema de assimilao, para o caso global foi utilizada a rodada do Modelo Global CPTEC/NCEP T126L28 operacional no CPTEC, e para o caso do regional foi utilizado o Modelo regional ETA 40 km, tambm operacional no CPTEC. Para ambos casos foram utilizados os campos de anlise das 00Z e 12Z e as previses de 06 e 12 horas. Estes so obtidos nos mesmos nveis do PSAS e para geopotencial, umidade especfica, vento zonal e meridional, durante o perodo de 1 a 31 de janeiro de 2004. Para obteno dos desvios padro, considerando a assimilao, foi utilizada a diferena entre a observao e o first guess, O-F, calculada pelo PSAS, durante o processo de assimilao. Para este foram considerados unicamente as observaes aceitas pelo sistema de assimilao, PSAS, tanto para o modelo Regional, RPSAS, como para o modelo global, GPSAS. Da mesma forma foram obtidos estes valores para geopotencial, razo de mistura, vento zonal e vento meridional, nos mesmos nveis anteriores e para o mesmo perodo anterior de 1 a 31 de janeiro de 2004. Os desvios padro foram obtidos a partir da seguinte equao:  EMBED Equation.3  (1) onde,  EMBED Equation.3  a diferena entre a anlise e a previso quando no existe um sistema de assimilao em conexo com o modelo de previso numrica, e na existncia do sistema de assimilao estes valores so os correspondentes O-Fs em cada ponto de grade. E  EMBED Equation.3  a mdia temporal dos  EMBED Equation.3 . Sendo obtidos os valores de desvio padro, estes foram aplicados equao 2, de tal forma a obter de maneira simples uma matriz de covarincia, para ambos casos, considerando a assimilao e sem assimilao. Estas matrizes forma utilizadas no PSAS para a obteno dos campos de anlise.  EMBED Equation.3  (2) onde,  EMBED Equation.3  so as funes de correlao horizontal;  EMBED Equation.3  so os coeficientes de correlao vertical e  EMBED Equation.3  so funes positivas, expressas geralmente como desvio padro de cada varivel. A quantidade  EMBED Equation.3  denota a distncia horizontal entre duas localizaes tridimensionais, as quais so definidas como a menor distncia entre a projeo vertical das duas localizaes sob a superfcie da Terra. Assim, a distncia horizontal entre o par de localizaes,  EMBED Equation.3  e  EMBED Equation.3  dada por:  EMBED Equation.3  (2) RESULTADOS E DISCUSSO Os resultados do desvio padro obtidos para geopotencial so mostrados na tabela 1. denominamos PSAS aos valores de desvio padro obtidos diretamente do sistema PSAS como referencia, sem assimilao, so os valores obtidos considerando a diferena entre a anlise e a previso, e com assimilao, quando os desvios padro so obtidos a partir dos valores O-F. Comparando os desvios padro do PSAS, tanto do modelo global como do regional, com os valores obtidos com assimilao, estes so menores que os do PSAS em todos os nveis de altura analisados, observa-se tambm que a diferena entre eles aumenta com a altura, com isto, podemos concluir que necessrio um ajuste entre o first guess e as observaes no processo de controle de qualidade antes de estes valores serem includos no sistema de assimilao. Quando os valores do desvio padro do PSAS so comparados com os valores obtidos sem assimilao, estes so similares em baixos nveis e a diferena entre eles se incrementa tambm com a altura.. Para o modelo global, nos trs casos, os valores dos desvios padro mantm similaridade na variao vertical, aumentar com a altura. Esta resposta de variao est ligada ao fato da variao de altura geopotencial aumentar com a altura. De forma geral os valores de desvio padro nos do uma idia de como o sistema evolui atravs neste caso da altura. Analisando os valores do desvio padro sem assimilao, estes apresentam valores altos, que significa que existe uma grande diferena entre os campos de analise e os campos de first guess o que pode ser devida ao prprio modelo de previso ou a condio inicial utilizada para a integrao do modelo. Analisando o segundo caso, quando existe assimilao, estes valores nos mostram que existe uma maior distncia entre as observaes e os campos de first guess em altos nveis, que nos conduz a deduzir que em altos nveis deve-se considerar a magnitude deste desvio para delimitar a rejeio o aceite das observaes. Resumidamente, em vista de que, os valores de desvio padro foram obtidos em ambos casos em funo do first guess, no caso de no existir assimilao, estes campos esto muito distantes do campo de anlise e no caso quando e considerada assimilao, o first guess esta muito distante das observaes, fatores importantes de serem conhecidos no processo de determinar as matrizes de covarincia da previso. Pode-se observar na figura 1, que existe diferena na distribuio dos campos. Comparando os obtidos pelo PSAS original e pelo PSAS incluindo os desvios padro sem assimilao as diferenas so maiores do que quando comparamos entre o PSAS original e pelo PSAS com desvios obtidos com assimilao atravs dos O-F, neste segundo caso, observa-se que existe uma distribuio mais homognea dos campos quando includos no PSAS os novos valores de desvio padro obtidos atravs dos O-F, isto nos leva a concluir que, uma atualizao desses valores de desvio padro so necessrios mesmo considerando o PSAS como controle Da mesma forma so apresentados na tabela 2 os valores de desvio padro para umidade. Pode-se dizer que, estes valores nos trs casos, tm a mesma distribuio vertical, diminuindo com a altura. Os valores do PSAS para umidade so mostrados at 300 mb, enquanto que para nos casos sem e com assimilao at 250 mb., Examinando os trs casos de desvio padro obtidos, vemos que nica semelhana entre eles a distribuio vertical, mas com respeito aos valores, estes so totalmente diferentes, o que sugere uma validao dos mesmos sendo includos no processo de assimilao. Comparando os desvios padro com assimilao e sem assimilao, como mostrado na tabela 3, observamos que de forma geral ambos tanto para o caso regional como global, os valores diferem muito entre eles, da mesma forma, se optar por valores a escolher para implementar no processo de assimilao, deve lembrar que teriam que ser feitos testes a modo de verificar a melhor resposta e impacto, dos mesmos. Nesta tabela, pode-se observar que de forma geral estes valores incrementam com a altura, tanto no modelo global como no modelo regional com e sem assimilao. Estes valores sero validados na incluso do sistema de assimilao e com a previso obtida no modelo de previso numrica. TABELA 4. Pode-se observar que na regio de latitudes altas para os trs casos a distribuio e similar, enquanto que para latitudes tropicais neste caso o campo obtido com os desvios padro calculados sem assimilao so muito parecidos aos campos obtidos com o PSAS sem modificao, enquanto que utilizando os desvios padro obtidos com assimilao os campos so completamente diferentes principalmente na regio tropical. Estes resultados mostram que existe um impacto direto nos campos de anlise dos desvios padro obtidos para o clculo da matriz de covarincia da previso.  Figura 2. CONCLUSES Os desvios padro das variveis de fato tem um efeito direto no processo de assimilao, isto significa que estes valores sendo parmetros das matrizes de covarincia da previso devem ser corretamente determinadas para um melhor resultado do processo de assimilao. Os valores de desvio padro devem ser obtidos para cada modelo de previso, regional e global, separadamente, mesmo sendo o mesmo sistema de assimilao utilizando em ambos. Como trabalhos futuros, fica realizar um experimento por um perodo maior com estes valores considerando a previso do tempo a modo de permitir-nos selecionar os melhores valores de desvio padro para uma prxima operacionalizao no CPTEC.
